Why China?

At a total $10.2B in 2008, China represents the 3rd largest medical device market in the world. With an average historical growth rate of 15% and an expected increase in growth taking the annual total to $17.5B in 2010 the opportunity is only getting bigger.

The anticipated increase is due to a policy of heavy new government investment in China’s healthcare infrastructure with the purpose of broadening access and coverage for the entire country. China’s best and most well funded hospitals are known as Level III and located largely in major metro areas. China’s Level I & II facilities are historically less well funded and represent the best opportunity for growth in the market.

The opportunity for US Medical Device Manufacturers is heightened by the perception in the Chinese marketplace that US products are the most advanced and of superior quality. Significant opportunities exist in the middle market for advanced and competitively priced products.
